Default Hamster peed on me for the first time, kinda worried

Hello! I've had my Syrian for about three months now, he's always been well behaved and seems to have adjusted well to his new home. Not entirely sure on his age, we were told he could be 8 mo to a year.

He peed on my lap (or anything outside of his habitat) for the first time. It may have been my fault, I had no idea whether or not he had just woken up as he was just sitting there when i saw him. I regularly do make sure that he has already went before taking him out. I'm worried if I were to ever let him lay on my lap again, he may think my leg is another potty, is there a way i need to get the scent completely out of my pants (or leg) even if its already been washed? D:

i washed out his old toilet after he got a new one. thoroughly, yet he'll still use it if its closer at the time

Hello and welcome to HC

Syrians are usually pretty good at controling themselves so I'd say it was more likely he had just woken up and hadn't had time to go yet.

A usual wash cycle will be fine, I wouldn't worry too much, we all have the odd accident now and again!

Most hamsters have a routine after waking which usually consists of a yawn, stretch, wash, pee and snack before they are ready to come out of their habitats providing they want to. Chances are that your hamster wasn't ready and got caught out so i wouldn't worry. Don't let this little incident put you off handling him. You could always place a towel on your lap if you're that worried.

Oh, and hello and welcome to HC!
