Default Syrian Bar Chewing

Hello People of the Net!

I've recently bought a syrian hamster and the first thing he did when he climbed out of his box was chewing on the cage bars. He almost constantly chews, for a week now, on the cage bars. He just stops to clean himself, drink, eat and repeat.
His Cage has around 0,3 square meters (~575 square inches) continous floor. It also has 2 stories with toys and his food.

What might be the cause of it?
Today I ordered a glass aquarium which has 0,4 square meters (~620 square inches) because over the week it became really annoying.

Little information:
He isn't aggressive on me, he also climbs in my hand when i want to help him not to fall down from the bars.
What he does, is he comes out of his home at around 8pm and sits almost 1-2 hours in his "sand box" intended for cleaning. He also hides some food there.

I'd like to know if there is something to help him enjoy his forever home.

Could you post a photo of his set up please?
Maybe he wants out of his cage. Do you give him out of cage time?

Oh! And welcome to HC!

Hello and welcome. What size is the tank? As in length, width depth. It sounds a reasonable size. They need plenty of enrichment - at least 4 to 6" deep substrate, a shelf or platform ideally (overhead cover to sit under and climb on), plenty of hidey places - tunnels etc. And a big house that is dark inside for building a big nest. Plus a 28cm wheel. See how he goes. I'd recommend not cleaning him out or changing anything much for the next two weeks as it takes that long for them to settle and adust to a cage. Although adding something new tends to be accepted well without stressing them.

Hi, i hope it is visible, as i removed the cage today and put him into an aquarium, i don't have any nice pictures of the cage.

I think he's not ready for out of cage time, as he ignores my hand with threats.

Thanks!

The tank is 100x40x40 (in centimeters). In the attachments you can see his new home (it is still in progress, i will make a wooden lid with mesh, after the lid is finished he will get a big platform to climb on).

Today i only moved him from the cage into the tank. I think he'll enjoy his big new home and i the chewing-free nights.
