Default Is my hamster bored or stressed?

Hi so I have a six month old roborovski who lives in a 864 sq in custom built cage, has about 10 in of bedding, plenty of chew toys, a diy maze made out of toilet paper rolls, plenty of food and even some foraging sprays/herbs. Yet she’d often wake me up at ungodly hours from either clawing up against one of the walls or scratching at her multi-chamber house. I feel like I’ve tried everything and she STILL is bored/stressed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you checked that her water bottle and wheel are working ok?

Some Robos like an upright wheel and a flying saucer as an additional wheel.

Maybe you could post a photo of her set up so people can have a look and maybe come up with ideas.

Is it something she is doing for a long time? I only ask because sometimes my robo scratches at the inside and outside of his ceramic hides, but it is when he he digging around in his bedding and it is as if he is trying to move the hide as well. He even does it on his wheel and the wall occasionally. Can you see any other signs of burrowing around the area she is doing it, or is a definite I'm trying to get out of here scratching?

Hmm I can’t tell if it’s a “I’m trying to get out of here” scratching or not but she does scratch the wall feverishly and she’ll paw at the corner of the multi chamber house I made for her (which is super loud since it’s hollow).

Her cage looks great and she seems very tame for a Robo.

Maybe she wants more out of cage time?
Does she have a playpen or hamster proof area to run around in and explore outside her cage?

The house you could submerge into the substrate which would cut the noise out.

Ahhh yes, I rarely take her out to the bathtub to explore so maybe it could be that! For a playpen would I just be transferring the same stuff from her enclosure into the playpen?

Maybe you could try using other toys in her playpen / bathtub? This doesn't involve any further cost - we give our dwarf a stash of differing lengths of cardboard tubes in her playpen and she is fascinated for ages. It's a chance to give her long tubes that we wouldn't put in her cage because of the size, and also more space just to run around and explore the world from a different angle.

Is she ok in the bath tub? I'm only asking because none of my lot liked it in there and prefer to run around in the sectioned off hall with under door gaps filled by a blanket.

I always put a spare wheel down and like Petite, toys that wouldn't fit in the cage. Cardboard boxes with various holes cut out are popular too and things to climb over and under. A blanket to run under is liked by one of my dwarfs etc.

Hamsters love to run around and explore and often use me as a climbing frame or run up my trousers legs.

I wouldn’t use the bath for a robo, a playpen or large play bin would be more suitable.
As for the behaviour making a racket digging & scratching in the house is not unusual for some hams or a sign of boredom it’s just what they do! Same often goes for scratching at the sides of a tank.
If you ham enjoys out of cage time I would try increasing that though.
