Default Hamster doesn't chew anything. Ideas?

Annushka doesn't seem to be interested in chewing anything. I've tried willow and apple wood, toilet paper rolls, cardboard and scraping peanut button on the apple/willow sticks. This leads to a little bit of chewing but not much.

Not sure what else to do besides soaking the sticks in something which I will try next. She just doesn't really seem to be a chewer at all so I'm not sure what her preferred object to chew is (if there is one).

Looking for some ideas.

Have you tried Whimzees?

Most hamsters don't chew wood or cardboard, to be honest. As long as her teeth aren't growing too long it's not really a problem. It's a rare hamster that doesn't like a Whimzee though.

I'll look for them. I thought about walnuts, but they are so hard I wasn't sure if this was a good idea and might break the hamster's teeth.

Walnuts are fine. You could make a small hole in the shell with an awl so she can smell the nut, then she might be more inclined to chew it.

Haven't met a hamster yet who doesn't like a Whimzee.

Good to know. I'll pick up a few and see how she likes it.

I would definitely say yes to Whimzees, but a very firm no to the Ecotrition cheesy chews. Whimzees are much higher quality with far more suitable ingredients and are the way to go as far as genuinely edible chews go (not the veggie sausage/veggie strips though due to clove oil in those specific products but the others are completely fine).

Rosewood also have dandelion and nettle root I believe which might be worth ordering. While not all Rosewood products are safe or necessarily high quality, that one in particular is worth trying. Of course you don't want a hamster eating lots of either root same as any other food, but they're a nutritionally beneficial chew in reasonable amounts and often get accepted even when a hamster doesn't want to chew other things!

There's always the option of food grade edible in shell nuts - just don't get any salted, though plain roasted without added oils and such can be perfectly fine(encouraged regarding peanuts actually due to risks of certain harmful molds I believe which are commonly present in raw peanuts). Walnut is a common recommendation but it definitely isn't your only option, though I would stick to human grade for quality control purposes rather than going towards things sold for wild birds and such.
