i’m sorry,, don’t listen to me idk what i’m talking about
Many people use ecotrition cheesy. I think if you cant get hold of whimzees, which are better ingredient wise they are fine to try.

I would strongly disagree. Just because many people have used them doesn't mean they're necessarily a good thing for hamsters to be chewing and ingesting in terms of ingredients.

That being said, there are plenty alternative chew options outside of Whimzees as I've mentioned previously - including things you can find in grocery stores!

I think the forum might be having issues at the moment with quoting - it looks like quotes are combining the actual person quoted along with the previous person to reply from what I'm seeing. Hopefully it gets fixed.

Let's let people make their own decision. Here's the ingredients list found on Hamster Hideout

Cheese Chew
Ingredients:

Wheat Gluten, Glycerin, Rice, Corn Powder, Pineapple Fiber, Gelatin, Modified Starch, Cream Milk Flavor, Cheddar Cheese, Titanium Dioxide, Vegetable Oil, Calcium Carbonate, Fructo-Oligosaccharide, Maltodextrin, Potassium Sorbate, Bentonite, Propylene Glycol, Chlorophyll, Sugar, Fd&C Yellow 6, Vitamin E.

Analytical constitutes
Protein 25%
Fat 4%
Fibre 2%
Moisture 10%

Whimzees
Ingredients:

POTATO STARCH, GLYCERIN, POWDERED CELLULOSE, LECITHIN, YEAST, MALT EXTRACT, SWEET LUPINE MEAL, ANNATTO EXTRACT COLOR, ALFALFA EXTRACT

Analytical constitutes
Protein 1.1%
Fat 2%
Fibre 13.7%
Moisture not stated

Also note that these are treats for them to gnaw on to the amount they consume within a single sitting is quite small and doubt it'd do much hard regardless of which one you chose. I'm yet to find the analytical constitutes to them so will add that alongside the ingredients so people can make an informed decision.

May be worth taking the hamsters age, health and activity levels into account too

I had the lack of chewing problem too but whimzees worked for my hamster. I got the xs size so he can carry them wherever he likes. Also when I got the rosewood carrot cottage hideout he chewed the walls and roof of that a lot. Can get that on amazon or pets at home.

Never heard of ecotrition cheesy chews.

Are they in the dog isle with the whimzees?

My hamsters are allowed a treat now and again of something that's not classed a healthy snack or whatever one wants to call it.

Life's too short especially a hamster's.

They're sold for small pets actually. While there are other foods that wouldn't necessarily be considered healthy that would be far better to be giving as a special treat, those aren't really something I would even consider for that.

If you really want to do something special and give a more indulgent treat here and there, there are far better options. For example, you could even make your own homemade hamster cake with safe ingredients and it would likely be significantly healthier(depending on how you make it in terms of ingredients and such) while still being special and not just an everyday treat!

ETA another option for US hamster owners worth mentioning:
https://www.petsupermarket.com/sunbu...oduct/SCM10228

Different stores sell that specific treat at different prices, though I've seen them around the $1.99-2.99 range. I wouldn't give an entire stick at once to any hamster regardless of species, but they are worth trying and have decent ingredients. They may not be the most special treats but they're an option for any species - no added sugar etc, fairly good ingredients, that sort of thing.

Never seen them for sale in the UK and they are expensive to ship from the US

oh I just looked and found them for £7.99 on amazon. I just got a pack to try. It might go in the hamsters xmas stockings. I will probably never buy them again.

Looking for some ideas.
Spookymulder I just thought you could try one of the those sweetcorn cob things, I always think the kernels are quite hard for them to have to bite of

Something like one of these:
