Hey, so I've had my russian dwarf for just over 2 weeks now and taming has been going fairly well I'd say. I let him out into a playpen daily and that's where I sit with him and give him treats etc.
I've noticed that for about the first 10 minutes he will play with his toys and run about happily but then he starts to kinda pace along the sides of the playpen. The pen is hexagonal and he has figured out that he has the most chance getting out at the corners ( he is nowhere near actually managing to get out at all but you can clearly see hes figured it out). He also starts to climb on me a lot more and you can just see its cause hes figuring out that I'm higher ( if that makes any sense?). He wont just sit in my hand like normal but tries to go right to the bits of me that are nearer the edge of the pen.
I know this can be a sign of stress but he does not display this behaviour in his cage at all. Not even once have I seen this. And his pen is a much bigger space that I fill with toys and his usual little house from his cage.
I guess I'm just asking if this is normal? I dont ever force him out or anything and his house is there so he can hide if he wants so it's not like I think hes terrified or anything. I just want to know that if it is caused by stress if theres a way i can help with this?
As mentioned before he doesn't do this in his cage at all so that's why I'm confused.
Any thoughts appreciated
