Hiding Hamster
We adopted 2 Winter Whites about 6 weeks ago. Last week one snuck out of the play area I had set up. She was out of her bin cage for about 15 hours. After we found her and put her back in the cage she turned on our other hamster. They fought and both were injured but the non dominant was definitely more hurt. We did separate them. We moved the injured hamster to a smaller cage for a few days to heal, which she did. We also rehomed the dominant hamster. I have since cleaned out the bin cage of the dominant hamsters scent, reset it up and moved our other hamster back into it.
Now she stays in her burrow all the time. She runs and hides anytime we come near the cage. We've barely seen her in 5 days. She used to crawl all over me when I’d take her out but no seems to be scared of me/us. I know it was a stressful week - getting attacked, moving homes 2x, losing her partner. I’m hoping she just needs time to readjust, but if there is more I should do please let me know.
