Young Syrian bar chewing

Hi all,

I'm the happy owner of Aspen, a two-month old Syrian hamster (first time Syrian owner, second time hamster owner), and overall she's incredibly well-adjusted, but has, over the past few days, started a monkey barring/chewing campaign for several hours in the middle of the night.

Aspen is wanting for nothing - she lives in an IKEA Detolf tank with a self-built wire mesh top, so plenty of cage space, has two wheels (one wooden, one plastic) of appropriate size, plenty of bedding (up to 10"), numerous hiding spots/homes, treats, chews, fresh veggies and dry food (partially in a bowl, partially scattered), sand bath, hanging coconuts connected by a bridge for climbing/hiding, etc.

She comes out for cuddles/adventures every evening and occasionally some early mornings, too. She has plenty of chances to expend extra energy. She's very well-mannered and has never bitten or shown any signs of anti-social behaviour.

My partner and I are totally at a loss of what to do now. She's been keeping us up at 2:00 a.m. the last three nights (partially from the noise, partially from worry) with the wire mesh chewing racket and we don't know how to keep her happy. Much as we love to have her out to play and roam, 2:00 a.m. is not the time to do so unfortunately.

Would anyone have any advice?
