Question Hamster running too much?

Hi there! I’ve had boo for a few weeks now, and I’ve done a bunch of improving and upgrading of her enclosure. I’ve begun to notice something strange though, I’ve bought her NUMEROUS toys such as twigs for her to chew, tunnels, deep bedding to burrow in, a colorful wooden chew toy as well and of course her wheel. But she never even acknowledges her other toys, only runs and burrows during the day. She even has special treats with timothy hat baked into them but she hardly even sniffs them...am I doing something wrong? Could she have wheel addiction? She’s in a 100 L plastic tub which is big enough for her so I don’t think it’s bc if her cage...any advice helps!!

Hello, welcome to HC.

You haven't had her for long and she is still getting used to the world and her new home, it could all be just a tad overwhelming to her! I understand we want to give them lots to play and enjoy, but personally ive found starting off basic until they get comfortable and established the best way. They can become wheel obsessed and this can lead to some exhaustion and hinder their development. You could always place the wheel in for her a few hours in the eveing if you are concerned and take it out to limit her time. If she is bright eyed and eared I wouldn't worry too much, sounds like you are doing a great job

Ah thank you so much! She is very bright eyed and her ears are almost always up and attentive haha, I’ll stay patient and keep an eye on her just to make sure she’s settling well. I’ve already fallen in love with her lil heart! ❤️

It’s not unusual for them to go a bit crazy in the wheel to begin with, they also tend to run if they’re feeling a bit stressed which can just be part of them adjusting to a new home & owners, it’s only with very young babies, younger than those that would be available in pet shops, that you need worry about them overdoing it.
A lot of tuys & chews that are sold for hamsters just don’t appeal to them at all, try scatter feeding to keep her busy with natural behaviour & if you can get them a whimzee dog chew (the toothbrush ones are best) is usually a favourite with hams over hamster chew toys.
