Play pen

I've had my syrian 12 days. She started off being quite nervous and running away when she saw us. She never came out but over the last week or so, she is taking treats from me and when I open the cage door she comes out on to the ledge.

I dont have a ball as heard bad things about them. So I sat on the floor with my husband and made a leg play pen area for her to run around in. She seemed to enjoy it but my husband didn't (he doesnt want anything to do with pets).

I brought the pop up play pen off amazon and it came yesterday. Tried her in it last night but she seemed like she hated it. Tried to climb out, dig and bite at it. She also seemed like she was frantically running around.

I put some familiar items from her cage in the pen like her tubes, wheel and house. And also put some food down for her. After 10 mins I put her back in her cage.

But then when I walked back to her she was at the door wanting to be let out again!

Do I continue with the play pen and hope she will 'get used to it' or try something new?

It sounds like she was just being a hamster, they can do anything to try and escape sometimes. She may be like that in anything you put her in. Have you tried a cardboard box or a plastic storage box to see what she is like?
Also, is the current play pen one of those plastic ones? If so you may want to keep an eye on her and make sure she is not chewing it.

Once they've had a glimpse that there's more they don't like walls l, remember in the wild there would be no boundaries unless they came across another hamster. It's just natural
