Reassurance needed.
Hi
Please tell me I'm on the right path to taming my syrian. I've had her 8 days now. First couple of nights I barely saw her but recently she has been coming out a bit longer. She quite jumpy and often just stares towards me and darts back to her hide away.
She is starting to take treats from my fingers although tonight I tried to get her to put her front paws on my palm but she wasn't having it. Tonight she seems more jumpy that usual which has made me question if I've done anything wrong.
Just need some reassurance that I'm going in the right direction thanks x

Re: Reassurance needed.
It’s just time and patience. It does take them about two weeks to fully adjust to their cage and new environment so she could well be nervy and skitty right now. One tip is to not clean them out or move anything in the cage the first two weeks. Second tip is use a litter tray and “spot clean “‘then you can go weeks without needing to do a cage clean (reduces stress for them). You just empty the litter tray once or twice a week. Syrians will use one if you put it in their chosen pee spot (often a corner of the cage).

It can seem a bit stop start or one step forward one step back in the beginning but patience is the key & just try to go at your. hams pace, you’re not doing anything wrong & she will gain confidence soon enough.

Re: Reassurance needed.
Sounds like you are doing all the right things, just take it in her time. We had a full moon Monday and the moon is still quite full, it may be that this makes her a bit more jumpy it's worth watching too see if it affects her, it definitely does my hammy
