Question How do I safely take something out of my hamster's mouth?

Hi

My boy keeps biting me, so I've decided to start wearing rubber gloves when handling him so if he bites I won't get hurt, as he did a particularly nasty bite the other day which made me bleed a lot. However, he just bites the glove and won't let go, and tries to eat it. I don't want him to eat the rubber glove as its not good for him and my hand is in the glove, but he just doesn't let go. How do I safely take the glove out of his mouth without hurting him? What I did yesterday when he bit me was hold the glove in the air until he lets go, but idk if this is safe for him or if it will hurt him. Does anyone know how to stop him doing this? Thank you :)

Has he always bitten you or is it something recent? Rubber gloves don't give you much protection and they're ruined once punctured. I used gardening gloves at the start of taming my Syrian when i didn't trust him enough to handle him bare handed. Also, with a gardening glove that's not so tight fitting you can slip your hand out at any time. The boy may run off with the glove but you can retrieve it when he lets go.
How often do you handle him and when do you handle him? If your boy is anything like my Syrian it can only happen on his terms, like when He is in the mood and not when i would like to interact with him.

He's bitten me before, but he's more bitey now than he was nearer the begining of taming him. I think the reason behind him biting me a lot very recently is because he's woken up a bit late for a few days so I didn't have the time to let him out for playtime. Thanks for the idea of using gardening gloves. I try to handle him during playtime, but when he bit me the other day it was when I was sorting out his cage as he'd knocked over a couple of his toys by accident when he was climbing on them. He used to be fine with climbing on my hand to get treats at the begining of taming, but now he doesn't go on my hand, and if he does it's just to bite my fingers lol. I haven't handled him outside his cage in a couple weeks tho, which is probably the reason

I think he's telling you he doesn't like your hand in his cage It might be better to do any spot cleaning or adjustments until he's out of the cage in a playpen nearby or something.

Leather gloves or gardening gloves will be better. The problem with him dangling hanging onto a glove is it will create a kind of tension between you two. They tend to only bite when they're scared or possibly protecting their territory. It can also be that he had a bad experience with hands before you got him.

It sounds like taming isn't there yet. So a) don't do anything to his cage while he's in it (some hamsters also don't like a hand from above). b) I would start from scratch slowly with handtaming in the bathtub or a playpen. Putting some treats on the palm of your hand. Don't try to pick him up for a while. If he puts a paw on your hand when eating the treats then he is gaining confident and beginning to accept you - but all out of the cage, not in it.

You could use a jug or mug as transport for him with a little treat he likes in it
