Question My Hamster Refuses to Run

Hello dear hamster lovers! My hamster used to run at his wheel until I buy a new, bigger one. Previous one was small for him so I bought a new one but he just doesn't run in it. He climbs on it and then just sits, or climbs over the wheel instead of running in it. It has been two or three days that I bought this new one. He basically does not care.
Today I also brought the old one in his cage, now he has got two wheels. He still doesn't seem like attracted to any of them. Is it normal? Which one should I keep?

Hi which wheel did you get? It might be too stiff for him to push (silent spinners are notorious for this). They do tend to do most of their running at night so maybe he does it when you’re asleep. Test it to see it spins freely because sometimes they sit in it to alert you that it’s not working . If it is spinning freely then put a bit of substrate on top of it before you go to bed. If it’s gone in the morning he’s used it.

Anyway it would help to know if it’s a Syrian or dwarf hamster and which the old and new wheels are.

Hello! I will try to upload a picture soon. Both wheels are spinning properly I think. I tested them. I usually can hear him spinning while I am sleeping so I strongly believe he does not spin for two nights. My hamster is a Syrian by the way.
I will try the trick - but he will probably just climb the top of it again.

Could you upload a photo of his cage and his wheels - it might help to see what the issue might be. He shouldn't be able to climb on top of his wheel if it spins freely as he'd just slide off again. How old is he?
