Hamster taking over my flat
Hi y'all. I have two beautiful girls, who live together in a huge cage. Lots of toys, chews, hideouts, 2 wheels, tubes, thick layer of woodshavings to burrow in etc
One of the sisters is clearly an alpha, really sassy, while the other is more cuddly and sweet
I take them out for play times a few times a day and let them free roam the bedroom. The issue is, while the calmer hamster behaves normally, lets me pick her up, goes back to the cage to do some of her hamster stuff in the comfort of her own space, the alpha girl has decided that the entire bedroom is now her territory. She's fine and all love when i pick her up from her cage, carry her to a different area of the house, but when i try to interact, or even exist with her in the bedroom she gets VERY territorial and aggressive. Runs up to me just to bite, gets really upset when i pick her up and sinks her teeth right in my hand. Terrorised my boyfriend to the point the 30 year old man is afraid of a dwarf hamster and doesn't go into the room when the hamster is out. She's only like this with humans. She's completely fine with her sister roaming in the area
Because of that entitlement to the entire bedroom space, she has developed a nasty habit of bar chewing to get out at night. I've read all threads i could and done EVERYTHING recommended, apart from moving her to a full glass tank (the way the cage is set up, having a glass tank on the bottom and a bar top they can access from a level). There is an abundance of chews, entertainment, space. I tried blowing on her nose when she's chewing to annoy her, putting olive oil on the bars which worked for a while but now she got used to it and mocks me by straight up licking it off fresh from the bars. I even tried to demonstrate my alpha status by 'fighting' her and gently picking her and putting her on her back but she wins these fights armed with her sharp teeth
What do? Do i have to give up and just leave the cage open for the night so she can free roam whenever she feels like it? Is it possible to make the hamster give up what they consider their territory and put them in their place?
I'm at my wits end. Short of putting her in a full glass tank and not letting her free roam anymore, or straight up moving flat, i don't know what to do anymore. Please, if you have any more advice or tips, send them my way
