Whimzee alternatives
As you may or may not recall, I initially had some trouble with finding suitable chewing options for Cadmium until someone here suggested whimzees. Both Cadmium and Hydrogen enjoyed their whimzees and they would disappear into nests in pretty short order (watching Cadmium drag it around was adorable). Unfortunately, Carbon doesn't seem the least bit interested in either of the whimzees I've offered (there aren't any orange coloured ones left in my pack) and also doesn't like dreamies.
He has shown some interest in monkey nuts, but only when I cracked the end for him to get started and I'm not sure how effective that will be as an option, so I was wondering what other people have found works with their hams. He's not shown much interest in chewing any of the (many) wooden options in his cage either.
I get the feeling he wasn't exposed to much besides pellets before he got here and he can be slow to take to new foods (he flat out refused mealworms for over a week and now he can't get enough of them) so I'm aware he may take a while to come around, but if anyone has any other ideas, it would be great to have more options in case he refuses any and all whimzee options lol

Re: Whimzee alternatives
When I first got Star (Syrian hamster) she ignored the whimzee the rescue left her with for about a month until one day she decided it was worth having and dragged it in to her nest/house. So time could help.
You could also try a walnut, just make a hole in one end to help get it started and so they can smell the walnut inside.
I have also used pedigree biscrock biscuits - the original ones not the gravy bones

Re: Whimzee alternatives
I'd give it time...my hams all love Whimzees but sometimes they'll ignore a whimzee for a while then all of a sudden devour it.
As for monkey nuts, all my dwarves have trouble cracking the shell so I just take a tiny bit off the end of the shell to start it off and they then do the rest. There is still wuite a lot of gnawing to be done to get to the nut do it is worthwhile.
I would also leave a wooden chewing stick in the cage for him. Even if he doesnt ever chew it, I've found that two of my hamsters at different times have all of a sudden begun chewing their wooden sticks after never paying any attention to them before.

Rosewood make a product which is just dandelion root and nettle root, and while it isn't something that should be chewed in excess they can make a really good non wood chew for hamsters who just aren't bothered with wood.

Those happen to be one of the decent quality Rosewood treat products. You can find them in a variety of stores that stock Rosewood items - but these particular "treats" I would consider a valuable tool in the arsenal of a hamster owner as they are sometimes one of the few things some individuals will even bother chewing on.
