Default Hamster only waking up late late at night and going to bed early arly in the morning

I have recently adopted/rescued a little robo hammy a week ago, but I am struggling to fit in with his sleeping patterns as he wakes up at 11:30 at night and goes back to bed about 3 in the morning. It is driving my mum up the wall that I am staying awake till goodness what hours just to see little Elliott. We normally go to bed at 10 and wake up about 6:30. Before bringing him home I thought that I might see and hour of him before and after our bedtime. It is making it impossible taming him at gone midnight or setting my alarm at 2 in the morning. I understand that he is nocturnal and I respect that but how do you all fit in with your hamster, as when I begin school again I fear that with the early bedtimes I will never get a chance to see or be with him.

His schedule might change as he settles in more. You may be able to coax him awake earlier by keeping you lights off and the room quiet. My Syrian wakes up on her own at 3am and goes back to bed by 7am. I can usually get her to wake up at midnight sometimes earlier by keeping my room dark and very quiet. Good luck! Do you have any pictures of the little guy? I’d love to see him. Also what’s his name?

A week is still early days, it can take them a while to settle & gain confidence.
What's his cage set up like? Does he have plenty of little hideouts & places to feel safe when he's out & about? Too much open space in the cage can be intimidating for them.
He may settle in soon & begin to come out earlier. Try putting a tasty treat in the cage, something that he will be able to smell, a mealworm or a piece of nut may do it & see if that will tempt him out .
Spend time just talking to him quietly, even if he's not out & for a while if he does begin to come out so he can get more comfortable with your presence before trying to move on with taming.

Thank you for your kind reply. His name is Elliott. Initially coming from a tiny 100 square inch cage with a house food bowl and water bottle was very scared and would only run around in tiny circles. He is getting better. I just can't wait to see how much he will progress in a few weeks. I have not got too many photos as he is still very shy and will only come out in the pitch black but this is my best one. His cage is 1090 square inches with open space at the back to run around but there is a large area of hides and twigs and an 8'' digging area. I have a row of houses so he can jump from house to house to get from one place to another

Aww he looks very cute there!
They do need plenty of substrate to burrow in so I would suggest putting a lot more in the bottom, you could just about fill that bottom section up rather just having a smaller digging area.
That style of cage does pose a potential risk of falls from the higher shelves so do make sure he can't fall onto anything hard if he does fall, having a lot more substrate would help with that.
You could put the wheel higher up maybe on the first shelf then put his house on top of the deeper substrate.
Not sure what else to suggest as I do think that type of cage is quite hard to set up for them tbh.

Yes, I do find it hard to set up. That is the only place the wheel fits which is a huge shame. I got the cage second hand with a whole 65ltr box full of hamster hides and toys for £15. We are looking into shredding cheap kitchen roll to add a bit more digging area yet as the wheel does not fit any where else I'm not too sure we can make it much bigger for now. I do have an IKEA detolf on my birthday list, so fingers crossed. Thank you for your kind reply.

The cage style isn't ideal for the reasons mentioned, but it's workable with a few adjustments. I would fill it up with substrate up to the first level, and try to construct some sort of fence for the top level. My Roborovski has no depth perception and will run straight off edges if there isn't a barrier to stop her. You could get a platform or a large house with a flat roof to set the wheel on, so that it's above the substrate level. A few options from Amazon:

That's a good idea to use one of those burrowing boxes for the sand. I might try that myself. I like the branches and bark too.

That's a beautiful home and I agree about the bottom being filled up substrate. Majority of hamsters are night creatures, I did smile at you staying up late to watch him.
This is all new to him and he'll be enjoying exploring his new surroundings. If you want to be able to see him so you can go to bed at a reasonable time, then create a play area for him, it would have to be concealed so he couldn't escape. With mine, I've always used my hall as it's the smallest room and at first I would seal off an area so he gets used to the open area and gradually increase the space. I would also put some of his toys out so he can recognise his smell. I bought extra tubes. I would use books/catalogues so he can't get escape.
