Hello everyone, so recently I moved my hamster from a Kaytee cage (the kind they sell you at Petsmart when you don't know what you're doing) to the equivalent to IKEA Kallax.
When she was in the smaller cage I could easily find her pee and poop areas. Now that I've moved her in to the much larger cage I cannot find anything. She doesn't use the sand area or the shavings to go to the bathroom. I dug up her entire bedding area trying to find it. The bedding is white and I did find some that were stained yellow but when she was in the small cage there were obvious wet spots. Would the wet spots dry that quickly in this larger cage? I barely found any pellets of poop as well. With the bedding about 18" would she burrow down to go to the bathroom or would she go on top like she did before?
Also, after I moved my hamster to her new cage she has started making these sounds as if she has a snotty nose. I do believe I see some crusties around the end of her nose but it was not wet. There was no discharge around her nose or eyes. Her tale was not wet and her feet were not swollen or red. I use Reptisand desert white sand, aspen shavings, and Kaytee Clean and Cozy bedding with botanical hay mixed in so I don't think it has anything to do with the habitat except it started once I moved her into the bigger cage. The only think I think it could be is that we sleep with the window open and it does get pretty chilly at night. Would that discourage her from coming out of her burrows to play and run on her wheel or cause her to get a hold?
