Dmitri is sick

My hybrid Dmitri hasn’t been himself lately. He’s sleeping a lot and only gets up a few times to eat and drink. He hasn’t touched his wheel at all and isn’t running around like the maniac he is....

I’ve checked his body for lumps and haven’t found anything. I’ve checked his teeth and no sign of overgrowing or loss. I’ve weighed him a few times throughout the week and he weighs 41 grams. His fur isn’t particularly unkempt. His scent gland seems to be over active. I cleaned his cage recently and he’s been using his scent gland a lot! I checked his gland and it doesn’t seem to be blocked or aggrevated. It does seem to be very greasy looking, however.

I’m going on the bus for an hour today to take him for a check up. Mentally preparing myself for the worst as I have no idea what this is!

You didn't say how old he is, I hope it is just an age thing and I hope the vets visit goes well.

Sorry to hear Dmitri isn't well, I was wondering if it may be age related too as they do slow down a lot with age & some will eat less too.
Good to hear you're taking him to the vet, I hope it goes well & is nothing too serious.

Hello everyone,

Just a quick update.

I took Dmitri to the vets. The journey was quiet long but he was sound asleep! The vet opened the travel carrier to find a very sleepy Dmitri. He’s not grumpy when he wakes up, which is a good thing.

The vet checked all of his essential organs and said he was fine and everything was working. No lumps or bumps. I explained to her that he managed to escape and I found him in the bathroom a week before. She concluded that he may have a mild cold and gave me some medicine. He was so well behaved and lapped up all of his meds

Moving forward. Dmitri is on the road to recovery and seems more and more like himself each day.
