The digging in the corners bit is just kind of what hamsters do, they will always be trying to find places to escape. When mine have been like that I just interact with them a bit and try and distract them, scatter food in the play area, let them climb up my arms/jumper sleeves because again, they think they are escaping Obviously making sure they aren't going to fall and hurt themselves.

It does sound like you have a plan though re the free roaming, so see how that goes. Goodluck.

Thanks! Yeah I try and distract her a lot but I just wonder if she's happy. She still doesn't get onto my hand unless there's food on it but she doesn't mind being held or petted. I'm trying to get her to sort of understand that I'm trying to help her.

I also bought a new wheel, a disk this time. It's a 20cm disk and although the pet store owner said it should be fine, I'm not entirely sure. The 30cm running disk seemed to be more for rats though, it was huge! I mean her regular wheel is 30cm but that's needed for her spine. Not sure if she needs that space on a disk. Anyway, I haven't seen her use it yet, apart from climbing on it and kind of spinning right back to the bottom :P Maybe she's just not a wheel hammy.

I wouldn't use disks, flying saucers, etc at all. They actually don't allow for a natural running position and what little running surface they offer is lower than upright wheels of the same size.

Glad the disk was only €6 then! I just don't think Jupiter is very interested in wheels in general. She's more interested in digging and climbing. I hope she can still get rid of her energy at night though..
