Exclamation Sleeping too much?

i recently bought my new hamster home. He is a campbell’s dwarf and we have had him for around 3 days but i’ve noticed he is literally never awake. he usually will wake up around 5 or 6 in the morning but he will only be awake for half an hour then go back to sleep and i’m in my room pretty much all day so i know he isn’t waking up at any other time. in addition to this, when he is awake he isn’t particularly active. is this something i should be worried about?

Don't think so because he's probably awake when you are asleep and is still settling in so will hide more until he gets used to his new home. It is very early days.

You can probably see pawprints in his sandbath, food that has been taken or eaten and rearranged substrate in the morning. Put some substrate on top of his wheel to see if its gone in the morning because he had used it.

Make sure his water bottle is working.

My dwarf did the same the first 10 days I had him. Don’t forget, your little hamster is scared of this new place. He has lost everything he knew so it will take a little while before he adjusts.

Nuage now comes out once or twice for 5-10 minutes during the day to grab a snack and drink. Then he basically sleeps and stays in his den the rest of the day. He comes out around 8:45 pm and is probably out most of the night. He’s been with me a little over 2 weeks now. I know Robos are more skittish than dwarfs but you should still see him more in a few days/weeks.

Thumbs up Re: Sleeping too much?

Thank you both for your replies, i am trying to be patient with him as i know he is very nervous but it’s just so easy to worry about him if i haven’t seen him and i’ve now switched to a food bowl so i can monitor his eating and check he is still eating enough despite me never seeing him. Hopefully he does adjust soon as i don’t like worrying about him all the time

Same with my fidget. Just took her home yesterday and shes always burrowed under her bedding. I've been trying to take a picture but when the light comes on she hides again. She is up all night running tho, I can hear the slight swish of the wheel. Every once in a while, she comes to sniff me when she's feeling curious enough.
