Haaalp!! I'm stressing over this behavior.
I have had both of my syrians for a 6-8 months now.
I spend time with them every night. I talk softly pick them up touch them, give them treats, etc.
Both of them are still skittish, they both bolt when I try to pick them up. My short haired ; Bitsy always nibbles the tip of my finger when I stick my hand in his cage. The long haired; Slinky dashes everywhere in the cage then jumps on his wheel to get away.
I have no idea what is going on. They take food and treats from my hand but they won't climb in.
Bitsy will stand up and look at me and want out when I talk to him but he wont let me get him or pick him up.
Can anyone give me some advice??
I added their picture, let me know if it doesn't show up.
Thanx

Re: Haaalp!! I'm stressing over this behavior.
Do you mean they bolt when you trying to get them out and put them back? If so, have you tried letting your hamsters come out of the cage in their own time and on to your hands?
How are you picking them up? if you aren't already doing so, have you tried gently placing your hands on the floor and scooping them up, (not grabbing from above) or again let them come to you in their own time.
From the photos (very cute btw) it looks like you have a run, is there room for you to try and get in with your hamsters (one at a time - obviously!)
When they are out, have you tried letting them go from one hand to the other and repeat a few times then let them run off again, without you putting them away immediately?
