Default Hamster taming issue

Hi!
I have had Tomate for 3 weeks now. The first week he was super scared, running on his wheel as fast as he could go all the time. Second week he was calmer, climbed three times on my hand, took food from me with no issue, he even actively came closer to me several times from quite a distance. Now he has done a 180 turn and is scared worse than at first. He hides all day, comes out only when he feels there is no sound in my room for a few hours (before he came out when it was relatively quiet but didn't take so long) and if he senses me he hides or directly goes underground for the rest of the night but is still awake as I hear squeaking and clicking.
The only thing that happened was that I needed to clean his sandbath and he kept going to bed before I woke up, so I moved the hideout he was sleeping in (which is in the sandbath), changed the sand and plopped it right back in. He came out squeaking all around the cage, super angry, dug a burrow and hasn't acted normal again ever since (that was over 4 days ago).
Do you have an idea on how to make him relax again? He acts scared, distrustful...

Maybe just leave him be for a few weeks until he starts calming down again and don't move things unless absolutely necessary and start the taming process over from he very beginning afterwards.

Hi Annabell! Thanks so much for replying
I did that, but right now he has changed his wake up time to two hours after my normal sleep time (I've stayed late two days and he appeared from 00.30 to 01.00) and hides before I wake up (at 06.30 normally). Otherwise he eats and drinks normally. So right now he's a ghost

Default Declining Health

I have looked after Syrians for 18 years.they are all different However my latest one.......

Gold Nugget is over 2.3 years old .

Monday really stressed me out. God nugget was dragging his back legs, behind him. Kinda, laying on his side
Took Gold Nugget out and looked over him, to make sure nothing was broken,

Gold Nugget didn't seem didn't seem to care at all. I Put up (Sammy play pen) on the carpet
Got his legs working again, Gold Nugget, now wobbles about.
I put him back to his house that's when he bit very hard...like I was a stranger.
Gold Nugget then led on a rock ( he has a 4ft by 2.5ft tank sawdust and river rocks keep nails in check) and didn't use his bed. till much lat in the evening.
This isn't like him at all.

Over the last week he's been in decline. Gold Nugget doesn't recognise me anymore Bites so hard he will not let go.
Gold Nugget has increased sleeping to nearly all the time , wont eat his food, has no interest in anything.
He cannot open his eyes they are sealed closed. I got him out Yesterday, to try and bathe in luke warm water, he was having none of it and bit me extremely hard and didn't let go. Thought the last year I have had to bath his eyes, with water and he has not bitten me, he always looked thankful

Gold Nugget has always be the most tamest and easy to handle, mellow, calm lovely hamster. very active and cleaver.
(loved) his Wheel and flying saucer. never nipped or bitten me ....until now.

Gold nugget has bitten me hard and drawn blood 3 times in one week. He bites so hard and doesn't let go.
Gold Nugget isn't Whizzing or couching...he seems to not care about his legs, or his eyes ( I know they have bad eyesight normally)
his coat is kinda oily and ...not as lovely as normal.

Most of my other Syrians, I have had over the years. Have never bitten me, they just get grumpy and die.
I feel as if Gold nugget is really fighting it. I see him sleeping and he lays down , not in a normal hamster way .he looks dead !

I guess he is biting me, for protection???? On Monday I really thought he was going to die.

Gold Nugget..... doesn't seem to know me anymore. We have been friends for over 2 years with daily contact.

I really feel for gold Nugget and I just want him to be as comfortable as possible.
So I made the tough decision ,not to get him out any more.
