Hamster bar chewing
My hamster has been bar chewing only in the last couple of days excessively in his around 500-550 square inch bin cage. He is four months and has plenty of activities- I don’t want him to hurt himself on the bars.. any advice? I cant get a picture right now but..

Re: Hamster bar chewing
I would recommend getting another bin cage and filling it with a lot of bedding so he can have something more to do!
That would give him more space and a lot of burrowing space if you have the space for it.
I had my little hammy Lilo in the alaska cage a while ago and she always bar chewed. I resently upgraded her to the linnmon and she loves it, so the space really matters. Is the mesh on his cage on one of the sides or on the roof?

Re: Hamster bar chewing
Yes, I do think size helps. My hamster stopped the bar-chewing immediately after I upgraded her to a bigger bin cage, and she's been as good as gold. She isn't even keen on climbing the ventilation bars of the bin cage, but she will trapeze herself up and down some of the climbing bars placed inside the cage (and she's meant to do that, so that's fine). She hasn't chewed anything since, except for food and her toilet roll (again, that's for her to chew).
