hamster bringing food onto wheel
so my male syrian often likes to grab some food and eat it while in his wheel. he just likes to sit there idk why. but today, i just fed him, there is a bunch of pieces of food in his wheel. he has the silent runner so it has a cover on the front. obviously, this would make running on it very difficult (and noisy).
does anyone know why he might be doing this? as well, should i take the food out so he can run properly, or let him do it?
edit: he just tried to walk on/kind of run on the wheel with the food in it. does this mean he won't take the food out?

Re: hamster bringing food onto wheel
I mentioned in Teddy's thread that this behaviour is common with hamsters, I would just leave the food, he probably sees it as a secret stash.

Re: hamster bringing food onto wheel
Both of the hamsters that I had/have get food from their bowls while still on the wheel and eat it there! It is kinda funny. I am not sure why Teddy stashes his food there, but I am sure he is doing it for good reason. If it gets annoying, I would just take the food out and place it next to the wheel. Maybe find a new spot for him to put food. Hope I helped at all!

Re: hamster bringing food onto wheel
I had one Chinese Hamster in particular who would put everything he could in his wheel... bedding, food, chews and if I took them out or they fell out he would have to stop what he was doing to put it all back. It made a dreadful racket as he ran but I could never break him of that habit.
