Help with new dwarf hamster biting!
Hello!
I’ve had hamsters for years mainly Syrians but I’ve also had 2 Russian dwarfs before, the most recent hamster I’ve bought is a female Russian dwarf named olive! She’s adorable but..... she won’t stop biting me, I’ve had her about 2/3 weeks and every time I put my hand in the cage to feed her change water bottle etc she walks straight over and bites me! I’ve tried everything I’ve read online, talking to her so she gets to know me, putting my hand in the cage to get her used to my scent, putting some toilet paper with my scent in, tried hand feeding her nothing seems to work she just keeps biting me!
She’s in an Ikea Detolf cage which is huge so I don’t think that’s the problem!
I’ve had Russians before and never had any problems with taming and biting does anyone have any advice?
Thanks I’m advance,
T

Re: Help with new dwarf hamster biting!
Is it just when she is in her cage that she bites.? She could just be a bit cage territorial. Some hamsters are completely fine out of the cage and don't mind being handled but they get stressed and scared about hands coming into their cage and attack and bite as they see it as a threat.
