Unhappy Should I be worried about this...?

Hello again,

So, I moved Cadmium into her detolf cage about a month ago and she seems really happy with it, she's enjoyed having the deeper substrate and exploring the space. She's been eating well but doesn't seem to want to chew any of her wooden toys/bridges etc, though she does sometimes nibble on an edible hide she has in there, but she's taken to chewing on (I think) the metal frame that sits inside the glass :/ Currently I'm trying to find reasonable ways to disrupt the behaviour without causing massive stress - I can't help but feel like it can't be that good for her teeth?? Am I being overly anxious about this? She never chewed on the structure of her bin cage, it's a new behaviour and I'm not sure what I can do to discourage or redirect her :/

Have you tried a whimzee? Most hamsters like them.

I haven't yet, but they're in my shopping basket for pay day - I have seen them mentioned a few times.

Hamsters like to chew them and they're cheap, less than 50p for one.

You could try to get your hamster to chew on her toys by using a tiny (stress the word tiny) amount of peanut butter on them and wiping it off, leaving a tiny residue of peanut butter on their toy's. You have to make sure you are using organic peanut butter made out of 100% pure peanuts. Again, you don't want to leave a big glob of peanut butter on her toy's just enough so she can smell it and start chewin!

Hope you can get her chewing! Good luck

Thanks Tubbytiger, I've tried that trick I don't think she particularly likes peanuts, since she completely ignores the monkey nuts and shelled peanuts that were part of her original seed mix

Have you tried something like these?

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Naturals-...ateway&sr=8-19

These really helped with my Luna's chewing.

I think the things is to try lots of different types of things they can chew until you find the one they finally chew.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely look into them. Found some whimzees at my local petshop so I'll try her with those too. I'm working through a few different options for chewable things for her, so hopefully she'll take a shine to... something lol

Oh my word...whimzees look like a hamsters dream! I’ve added that to my cart. Thanks for the tip. So excited!

my boy absolutely loves his whimzees! they're the same size as he is. it's hilarious!
he doesn't enjoy chewing on wooden chews vary much either. he used to chew on one of those chewnel things (absolutely destroyed it after a while) but he hasn't really touched his new one. he doesn't mind card board sometimes. i used to have a hanging chew for him, but again, he destroyed it, so now i've got to get another one. it was the only one of his wooden chews that he really chewed up. it must give them for to do, since it hangs. good luck with your hammy!
