Sleepy Hamster?
Hi Guys!
I recently noticed that my little robo hamster has been sleeping almost all day as well as through the night! She used to run around a few hours each night but now she barely comes out! Is this normal? She is between 6-8 months old, so age shouldn't be an issue. Also, she hasn't been eating much and she weighs about 18 grams. I did take her to the vet a few weeks back and they said she's perfectly healthy. Should I take her for another checkup?

Re: Sleepy Hamster?
If you are really worried, you could possibly set up a camera on the cage that can monitor her at night. Hamsters can be very quiet and it may be that she is awake and active more often but you just don't notice. I can some nights be very aware of my hamster making a lot of noise, while other nights I don't hear her much at all. If the vets have said she is healthy I would be careful repeatedly taking her unless it is necessary as it can be very stressful for a hamster and could do more harm than good if it is not needed. I would continue to weigh her to make sure she's not losing weight and just monitor the situation. Hope this helps

Re: Sleepy Hamster?
Thanks for the advice! I definitely do not want to stress her out if I can help it! I have been trying to keep an eye on her whenever I can to check if she is awake. It seems like she is up for an hour or so in the morning and then sporadically through the night. I think she isn't hoarding her food as much as she used to and that's why her food bowl remains fuller than earlier but she is eating some of it. I will try giving her some fresh vegetables and fruits and see if that interests her.

Re: Sleepy Hamster?
Also, I recently got another hamster (a young Syrian), who is in the same room but in a different cage of course. That little one makes a lot more noise than my robo is used to. Can that be upsetting her, since she is a jittery hamster?
