Default Syrian Help Please

My little Syrian Pancake is stressing me out. She has a not too big, not too small bin cage, tons of different toys and a "usable" wheel. She chews on her metal water bottle holder CONSTANTLY though. We've given her every kind of ham toy on the market, hanging, climbing, chewy, smelly, etc. We take out of her cage but after a few minutes she seems to start to panic so we put her back. If she hates her toys and being out of her cage, what can we do? This is really getting to us cause we usually pride ourselves on taking excellent care of our furbabies.

By "useable" do you mean she actually uses it?

She might just be a high maintenance kinda girl and even though the bin cage isn't too small by yours or my standards, it could still be too small for her.

What are you doing with her when she's out of her cage? Playpen, bathtime, free roam? My girl will also get a bit frantic looking sometimes once she's been out and about for maybe 15 mins so I will give her a water break and take her out again when she looks like she wants to come out again. You can start her on 5 minute bursts and work up as she gets used to it. It does a lot to burn off their excess energy so it's worth working at.

Why not try a play pen for her when you have her out og her cage then she can do what she likes etc

The water bottle is fine. We tried giving her a dish but she fills it with litter

Yes and that it's big enough for her

My message got messed up. Her water bottle is fine. We tried giving her a dish but she fills it with litter. Her bin is 34"x19"x12". We make her blanky tunnels on our bed to roam around for out of cage time. She's fine if we hold her but once we put her down she starts freaking out.

I have a female syrian and I know a bin that size wouldn't be big enough for her. For her specifically, it's a decent size in general. Just don't rule out the bin size being an issue.

If you think she's panicking you can give her the option of going somewhere she feels safe. Get one of her favourite hides or her wheel out of her cage for playtime and if she feels overwhelmed she can go to something familiar. And she can always come back to you if that's what she wants. The line between IM EXCITED and IM FREAKING OUT can be really thin so this way she can regulate herself rather than you trying to spot the difference.

A couple of mine have freaked out a bit on a bed (ears down and moved their bodies really low to the floor), I always think its cos its a wide open space (to a hamster) with no walls etc. Iv always found they are a lot more comfortable if you lay on the bed and they can run alongside etc or climb on you.

Very rare if you let a hamster free in a room that they will stick to the middle of the room, they want to be near walls for safety imo and thats why i think they are a bit uncomfortable on beds.

You need to stop her bottle spout chewing. They can become ill with over drinking as it upsets the whole body chemistry and this may be why she is so giddy.
You need to remove it and use a bowl. Just keep refilling it or put it on a shelf or a platform with no litter near it. One she is used to that you can put the bottle back but only during the day and you must put it in a different position and either quite high so she has to reach up to eat it or low down. Use the bowl at night. During the day they tend to just get up for a quick drink so don't chew on it. Once she is steady on that then let her keep it longer but out again if she chews. Another method that can help is to attach it with an elastic so it is dangling from the roof. They can lap from a swinging bottle but they can't usually get a grip to chew it. Let us know how she does. Wedging the spout back with a wood block so only the tip is in the cage can also work but often just changing the position will do the trick.
