Default Syrian hamster doesnt use wheel

So i'm pretty sure my Syrian hamster does not use her wheel. I've had her six months and shes never used it. I upgraded the one that came with the hamster heaven with a wooden 22cm wheel but shes never used that either. I know it should he 28cm but that wouldnt have fit in her cage. I think she didn't use the rolly one because it was far too small and I think the wooden one she doesnt like because it has quite big grooves which mist feel quite bumpy when running. I've just been looking at the 28cm trixie wheel and it has great reviews but will it fit easily enough in the barney cage and do you think she may use it? (I read on the reviews about peoples hamsters not using their wheels but loving these and running all night. Anyone experienced this? She does bar chew occasionally so I'm hoping a nice big cage and wheel will stop this.

All 11" and 12" wheels will fit in the Barney cage. I have the 12" Silent Runner (the orange wheel) screwed to the bars in the Barney cage - quite high up so it's only just below the top bars, and has substrate underneath it. It's a great wheel for attaching to bars but it is expensive. You'd be fine with the 28cm trixie wheel.

Your current wheel probably isn't comfortable for her to run in at that size. Not a bad size but it may still be a bit on the small side for her.

I would try a larger one and without that bumpy track (various cases of hamsters injuring themselves on those wheels, one of my own hams included) - the wooden trixie one with the cork surface that is I’m personally not a fan of the plastic one. Or maybe the silent runner if you don’t mind a slightly more expensive one that doesn’t run the risk of getting pee stained in it.

Omg, so the new wheel arrived today and after some tweaking I managed to get it in the HH (still waiting for the Barney cage). Shes been on it now for 10 minutes and still going. I'm so happy to see this as in the past she has got in the wheel, ran for 3 seconds got off and then not gone near it again for weeks and weeks. I guess she likes this one

I love the Trixie wheels, I just got the wooden ones and they're magic but I'm a big fan of the plastic ones too. Glad your wee woman agrees! :3
