Default New hamsters a biter

Hello
So we got our new hamster a week ago..
We let her settle in for four day just speaking to her and cleaning. Whenever I put my hand in the cage ( washed with unfragranced soap ) she comes up sniffs and bites Evey time, . Anyone got any advice?

She may just not like hands in the cage, it's probably best to begin short out of cage taming sessions, find something she'll climb into to transport her safely & avoid putting your hands in the cage while she's awake for now.

Just go slow with letting her get used to your hands, don't rush things & see how she goes, nibbling is just a way of exploring & different to biting from fear so don't worry if she does give you little nibbles, they tend to grow out of that pretty quick.

Since i last posted we have tried to get her use to us out the cage daily. Every time you put your hand near her/ lay your hand on the floor she comes straight up and bites it. It definitely a bite and not a nibble Its to the point we are all a bit edgy about putting our hand near her.

Have you tried rubbing some of their bedding onto your hands? It's a more familiar smell so they might trust you more therefore probably not biting your fingers off )

- Also when I first got my hamster I would put my hand in the cage for like 10 seconds and then took my hand out, repeating this every day ( routine ) until the hamster approached it welcomely then putting treats on my hands for the hamster.

- Hope this could possibly help? )

I feel like I've tried all. We always rub bedding. My son managed to hold her yesterday without bites. Were gonna keep trying! She was 6
Weeks old when we got her so I imagine she's still adjusting even now. Thank you for your response!

Well done for keeping on trying. Hamster bites are quite something.

Yes they are! Mind you I've been bit a few times at work so hamster bites don't feel too bad hahaha. gone from constant bites to a tester nibble, to nothing or a taster nibble. So she is definitely improving. I'm willing to do anything to tame her. I even got to give her a quick health check tonight
