Default Dolly is now hand tamed!

About three weeks ago I posted a thread after my syrian hamster Dolly really bit down on my finger during an in cage interaction. It did knock my confidence a bit, however after the excellent advice I received I took to transporting her via her exercise ball into a cardboard box. Initially it was a Doritos crisp box from the shop I work at however she was chewing through the corners so I got her a new box around the same size.

I would put my hand in (after washing it, and then rubbing some of her substrate through on it) and proceed to stroke her, and if she tried to climb out I would often put my hand underneath her. Most of the time to start with she would immediately walk off my hand and try climbing out again or she would sit in a corner and chew the box.

After a while she would quite happily stand on her hind legs in the box when she sensed my hand, she hasn't ever nipped me since the bite three weeks ago where-as before she was quite a nipper! Last night was a huge breakthrough in that she would come at sit in my hands, and climb up my wrist onto my arm, and I had her walking from hand to hand.

All in all I kept these nightly play sessions short, usually around 10 minutes. I'm quite amazed really given the time frame. When we adopted her via Pets at Home she was fully grown and born in May last year, so we've no idea how long she'd been without human interaction, as well as that one of the staff members referred to her as the bitey one. There wasn't anything on her adoption sheet and the bloke who got her out didn't get bitten.

So yeah all in all I'd highly recommend taming outside the cage in a box, especially if you can't get in a bath tub comfortably like me.
