Strange behaviour. Any tips?
I've noticed some quite strange behaviour in my hammy recently:
He has a potty which he regularly used until just recently I took it out and tried to see where he was peeing but everywhere else seems dry. I checked his bed and it is also pretty dry. I know he's definitely drinking because I've seen him but I don't really know if he's peeing which I know doesn't really make sense because what goes in must come out.
Also, I scatter feed him and it's sometimes hard to tell how much he's eating but he seems to be hoarding more food than usual even though I'm giving him the same amount of food as I usually give him is he not eating it? I haven't noticed any dramatic weight loss or anything.
Are these two connected? What can I do?

What species is he?
He’s most likely peeing somewhere you can’t see. Try to observe him closer for a few days. You’re bound to see him urinate at some point, during this time. If he’s drinking, he’s also peeing, somewhere. As for the food, most times you won’t be sure how much/what your hamster is eating. As long as he doesn’t look skinnier or exhibit any signs of illness, this isn’t something I’d worry about. If you’re truly concerned, you could always monitor his weight.
In all honesty, it sounds like your hamster is just fine. You can breathe easy. Best wishes!

Mine did for a bit decided to pee in a buried hole, found out the hard way when turning the bedding over.
They are odd creatures.
I'd weigh him once a week if you're worried.
Also if you keep them in an emptyish cage while you clean them out their bound to pee at some point.

It's not unusual for them to cover their pee spot with substrate so you might need to dig around a bit to find it although if he keeps using the same spot it will become obvious soon enough when it starts to wiff a bit!
Hoarding more food it most likely down to the weather & time of year, they often hoard more in winter & it has got pretty cold recently.
