Does my hamster need to readjust?
Some background information: I was living in off-campus grad housing last semester, when I got Penny (dwarf hybrid), and I've been back home since December. I did bring her home for Thanksgiving break and had her in a darker, quieter corner of the living room, and but was completely asocial and never came out. When I officially moved home, I put her in a completely different room. For the past month or so, she's been incredibly social and seems to love coming out of her cage and playing with everyone in my family.
The problem: I had to move her back up to the living room last night because it's freezing in the room she was in before. Today, she woke up a lot later than usual (She usually wakes up really early, around 4pm.), and when I went to see her she wasn't as active as she normally is. When I put my hand in her cage to see if she wanted to come out, she was cautious and was sniffing me a lot, and then she nipped me. Not aggressively, just to say she wanted me to move out of her way and leave her alone. Is it possible that she doesn't like the living room? Or is she just getting used to the new room?

Re: Does my hamster need to readjust?
The move will have unsettled her a bit & might take some getting used to so she probably will need time to settle again, I would just give it a bit of time & see how she goes.

Re: Does my hamster need to readjust?
Thanks! How long do you think it'll take her to get settled? I don't mean to sound insensitive or impatient. I'm just worried that if I leave her alone for too long, she'll become untamed. I read that that can happen with dwarfs.

Re: Does my hamster need to readjust?
That can happen with any species if you leave them too long but she'll be ok for a few days then I would just begin to interact slowly, even if it's just talking to her & maybe offering her a treat to begin with. Just try to go at her pace really but keep up some interaction as she settles in again.
