My hamster is making new noises
Hi all,
My hamster has started making noises in the past week or so i haven't heard him make before and i'm concerned. He is a Roborovski hamster. He doesn't appear injured or anything and i'm unsure what it is. The noises are very low squeaking noises and only happen from time to time. I've uploaded a couple of videos onto YouTube if someone can have a listen and help. You'll probably need to be right up the speaker to hear or be wearing headphones.
PS i know the video he is at his food, but he makes the noise everywhere.
Thanks

Re: My hamster is making new noises
How long wasn't he making the noise for? Some hams are just more vocal than others, I couldn't really hear properly but as long as he's healthy and acting like normal it generally isn't a concern.
He is very sweet though and looks a lot more like a winter white than a roborovski!

Re: My hamster is making new noises
He does look like a Russian (most likely a hybrid) & they can be quite vocal sometimes, as long as he's otherwise ok it's probably nothing to worry about.

Re: My hamster is making new noises
Some hamsters like to talk! He’s probably telling you about his tiny hamventures
Your hamster is a Russian dwarf not a Robo, he’ll be a russian hybrid though which means he’s part Winter White and part Campbells.
From the video your cage looks a little small, Russian dwarfs need a minimum cage size of 70x40cm but bigger is always better and a lot of hammies thrive in 100x50cm cages. I recommend the Duna Multy (70 x 40cm) or Criceti 15 (80 x 50cm) for a Russian dwarf.
