hello i am not really all too sure if i am using this right. i have recently purchased a new hamster named stinky. he’s quite timid and gets easily overwhelmed. i’ve only had him in my care 2 days so he’s of cause still settling in. i just wondered if a 70cmx45cmx45cm cage is big enough for my syrian hamster or if i need to buy a bigger one because i want the best for him while he’s young especially. also because he’s so much more timid that other rodents i own right now on weather i should start the taming process of getting used to smell and eating from my hand now or not till he’s gotten comfy enough to wander without getting too nervous at slight movements?
Has he settled in more now? It can take several weeks for them to get comfortable and it’s generally advised to leave them a week or two before starting any taming. How quickly they progress will depend on the individual hamster.
That sized cage is definitely on the small side for a Syrian but is probably ok as a starter cage. If you are looking to upgrade in the future then something over 100x50cm would be good.
