Default New hamster screaming

My new syrian hamster hugo who is about 9 weeks old started screaming tonight. He came out for a bit food and i lifted him and he started screeching, also when he went back into his nest i tapped on cage and he started screeching again. I had him out past two nights taming him and he was great wih handling he even sat with me for a wee while and had a cuddle. So what happened tonight ive had hamsters before and never had this.

It's best to leave hamsters alone for a week while they are settling in.
I understand wanting to handle them as soon as possible, but what happened tonight with you is your hamster letting you know he is unhappy with being bothered at the moment.
Hamsters screaming - especially when being handled - is their way of letting you know they want to be left alone, and is quite common with new hamsters as they are stressed from being in a new environment.
Give Hugo about a week to settle down before attempting to handle him again

It does sound as though the out of cage time & handling may have been a bit much for him, I've had hams who've been taming fine but after the first out of cage time or two suddenly get a bit reluctant to come out so you just have to take a step back & they usually come round & begin to progress soon enough.
Each ham is different & you just have to try to judge what's right for them & go at there pace.
You want to rule out any other possible cause too although it is probably just that he's a bit stressed with any sudden change in behaviour keep an eye on general health in case there may be a problem.
