Default Hamster has scratched a hole in her cage.

Hello, I'm new around here. Joined to ask this question.

My I noticed a few days ago my hamster has done a lot of scratching to the corner of the plastic bottom of her cage. Just today I've noticed she's actually scratched a small hole in the same part.

Is this normal? What can I do to stop it?

Hello and Welcome to Hamster Central
What cage does your hamster live in?

It is quite unusual for hamster to scratch a hole in their cage so it probably more likely that she chewed a hole in her cage. It would be best to get a new cage as she is will most likely make the hole bigger and possible use the hole to escape.

What’s her cage/setup like? Trying to chew/scratch her way out could be a sign she needs a bigger cage or is bored with her current setup. I agree that it’s best to get a new cage than risk her escaping. If you’re not already aware, Syrian hamsters need atleast 80x50cm cages but 100x50 is better for females as they’re bigger and more active.

once there's a hole there the hamster will be even more attracted to it. i have had success with supergluing sections of plastic icecream tub over holes. since the hole is completely gone, the hams ignore it now.

Super glue is quite toxic, if you want to repair it better to use a safe silicone sealant rather than super glue or even Ponal glue would probably hold it & that's totally safe.
