Question nervous/stressed/ should I cover his tank?

A few days ago I had posted about the lost of Morinozuka.

today I received a new hamster for my birthday. He is a wonderful Chinese dwarf (with no name yet). I was able to pick him out and everything. The staff members loved him and he is already pretty tamed as he already allows me to pick him up with no problems (picked him up at the store for health check). I've never had one this young before. The ladies at the store tell me he has been there for maybe 4-5 weeks with a brother and sister.
so I am just checking that this behavior is normal which so far I believe is normal for him as you know I took him away from his home, his family and the environment that he was use to.
I placed him in a 40 gallon tank with the box they provided and has yet to move. I moved him once to check on him and he did allow me to pet him but just looked at me but he doesn't seem to want to move.
I am curious if I should cover his tank if this would help him? I can't move the tank off the stand and he can see me walking by. Or if I should just allow him to adjust?

Thanks
Subaru

P.S sorry for such a newbie question he isn't my first hamster but like I stated he is the youngest I've had.

Congrats on your new ham!
It's totally normal for him to be nervous or hide at first, it can take them a week or so to adjust to the huge change of coming into a new home so don't worry.
Don't cover the tank just make sure he doesn't have too much open space in his cage, lots of deep substrate (at least 15-20cm) a good sized dark house & some smaller hides like bendy bridges, cardboard egg boxes, cork tunnels, coconuts, anything like that.
Just spend time talking to him quietly while he settles, don't try & pick him up or disturb him for a few days at least & he should be fine.
