Question Not Using Chews?

Hey

So, Monty just managed to draw blood biting me while I was handling him, which he has never managed to do! (I've now cleaned it up so no issues there.
Could this be because he's not using his chews properly??

Any suggestions on how to stop him drawing blood again?

Does he bite often or was it just a one off? If he doesn't normally bite then it could just be that he could smell something on your hands or something may have scared him a bit, they can often pick up on things we may not even be aware of.
Were you handling him in or out of the cage?

Highly unlikely to have anything to do with whether or not he uses his chews, they don't actually need chews if they have a proper diet & many don't like things sold as chew toys but whimzee dog chews are always worth a go if you haven't tried those, most hams love them. The small toothbrush one would probably be best.

He does often bite, but never draws blood, which is why I am questioning it. Although he was tired, he climbed onto my hand while I was sorting something out, and so took him out the cage. After a good 5 minutes of calmly running over my arms, he bit for the first time that day and drew blood. I wasn't grasping at him and just letting him run as he wanted.
I'm wondering if he drew blood because he hasn't been using his chews and his teeth are sharper or something along those lines?
I'll take a look at the whimzee dog chews. Thanks for the suggestion.

You can always check his teeth but the severity of a bite shouldn’t have a lot to do with them. Are you washing your hands with soap before handling every time? Even a trace of the smell of food can cause them to bite. I’ve not heard of that many robos drawing blood but it sounds as though you may need to go back a few steps with taming and take it from there. They can hide nervousness quite well I’ve found since they’re so speedy so he may be nervous of hands still. I’d stop handling in the cage for now and just use a play bin or similar until you know he’s definitely comfortable with you.

I'll attempt to check his teeth soon then.
I always wash my hands before and after handling Monty, as does anyone else who handles him. It seems that my Boyfriend never gets bitten by Monty, and my Mum got bitten a little the last time, but didn't bleed. Monty has bitten me since but didn't draw blood this time. I'll be sure to go back a few steps and take it slow in attempting to tame Monty again. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be sure to try using a play bin for a little again.
