Very active 2 year old hamster
Hello HC!
I have a 2 year old hamster who is more active now than what she was a few months ago. There haven't been any drastic changes to her life, only the usual cage cleanings and rearranging her toys. I've read up on how to care for elderly hams and everything is going great. She looks as healthy as a 2 year old hamster can and she isn't showing signs of dying any time soon. I just wanted to know if it's normal for an elderly hamster to be awake and running on their wheel for at least 4-5 hours in the day and all the way through the night? I barely used to see her during the day unless I called her and she came out. Is she ok?

Re: Very active 2 year old hamster
She sounds absolutely fine to me! The main thing to be worried about is lethargy, and she definitely sounds like she isn't lethargic. As long as she is eating and drinking, and looks generally healthy (I am sure you know what to look out for) then she is fine. It does seem a little unusual to be doing that much running at 2 but, if you think she seems healthy then I can't see any reason to be worried. My hamster is 2 and is much less active now, but still looking good!
