Can't Get Him To Take a Bath
Hi
I'm new to the hamster world but I think I've been doing an alright job learning all there is to learn. A little while ago I got Theodore a sand bath set-up and ordered the recommended Chinchilla sand (not dust) .. the problem is that I can't get him interested in it at all!
I've tried putting him in it ... and even tried to get the process started by flipping sand around but he just up and leaves. I've moved it to different spots in his cage but nothing seems to work. He is just totally uninterested. Should this concern me? Or is it just one of those things and sooner or later he'll know what to do.
Thanks for any advice
Rob

Re: Can't Get Him To Take a Bath
He probably just doesn't care. He might be interested later though so maybe you can keep it in but hamsters don't need sand baths it's just most of them adore sand baths. Cross your fingers that he likes it 😁

Re: Can't Get Him To Take a Bath
I would just leave it in the cage & wait & see what happens, don't try to make him use it.
It is rare for them not to love the sand but I guess there might be the odd one who doesn't take to it.

Re: Can't Get Him To Take a Bath
It's not unusual for Syrians to not be so keen on sand FF, they seem to do ok without it too but it is generally more important for the dwarf species to have sand.

Re: Can't Get Him To Take a Bath
It’s okay. My past ham Comet didn’t use is sand for flipping at all but rather a spot to wash a eat food. I guess he just liked it because the snap was cool under his feet. He may start to use it.

Re: Can't Get Him To Take a Bath
most hamsters have never seen sand before, and wont know what to do. mine didn't like it that much, but i actually went ahead and put some sand on his back, then brushed it off for him. he seemed to get the idea after that :P
he still doesn't use it much, whereas my robo loves his. it depends on the ham!
