Nests nests nests
I was wondering what the behavior of building nests mean? My hamster has made 5 nests already. At first I thought she was pregnant, and that I might have bought her pregnant.. Idk just assumptions haha. But after observation, I just came to conclude she just likes making nests.. But I was wondering if anyone had any insight in this behavior? She made a nest in her wheel, in her potty litter, in her hideout, and in this other corner... everywhere! xD ! I literally watched her stuff the bedding in her fat cheeks and died laughing xD

Re: Nests nests nests
It's completely normal!! My little Honey has, what, 3 nests? She enjoys being nice and cozy in dark spots! It might be because they're naturally prey animals and enjoy having different options to go and hide in if they feel endangered, or she may just be experimenting with where she'll like to sleep in for the night! Either way, don't worry, it's completely normal! Her stuffing bedding in her cheek pouches, too!

I thought so! I almost took the bedding away from her cheeks cause I thought she would ingest it! But I'm still in the taming process (had her for 1 month already!) and I was afraid to disrupt her... didnt want to be rude xD! Her stubborn self built back a nest in her wheel an hour later after I cleaned her wheel free of bedding xD She definitely got annoyed when I did that!

Re: Nests nests nests
Is she a dwarf hamster? I find Syrians tend to only make the one nest - and make it very big!

Haha cute! It’s very normal for hams to do this. Everyone gave great advice!

Interesting - mind you I've only had male Syrians. Are they nests or hoards maybe? I get mountains of substrate appearing in other places which cover up a hoard.

Maybe it's a girl thing! The only female Russian I had made multiple nests everywhere too.

Hmm.. now you're making me wonder if my Mariposa is a boy !! How do I check?! I wanna say both... a few days ago i saw maybe 5 nests? 2 of them which were tall and can cover and hide her
and the other ones were just some mediocre piles.. lol
She does have long hair on her butt tho.. but their only on her sides.. lol! I dont wanna turn her over and check yet cuz I dont think I've tamed her enough to lay her on her back in my hands xD

RIGHT! That's why I was wondering if she was pregnant or something cuz I had the impression that a nest meant she was gonna give birth and lay the babies in there xD
