Default Crumble is acting weird

My roborovski hamster (crumble) is acting wierd since yesterday when we changed his cage from a tiny little pet store cage wich was way to smail like 40cm by30 or somthing tiny since my parentsthink tiny hamster tiny house .
after a while of pestering i manged to get a large cage for my little guy
plus it is 40 degrees in the shade in the south of france so in the tiny cage was cruel.normally he is doing he own thing running in his wheel eating by 9 o clock maximum but since we got him the new cage he has been in the corner upsidown not doing anything until 8 then goes in his hideout filled with toilet paper . he runs in his wheel when he gets stressed so only when my hands are in there changing water or food.
he is on a diet of store muesli with pellets and dried veggie
i never tamed him in the 8 months i had him.
pls help me find out whats wrong we bearly see him.

Bonjour,
The change from his tiny home to a large cage/habitat can be stressful to a small hamster and it can take time for him to get used to it.
It doesn't help that he hasn't been tamed, I suggest trying to tame Crumble though success may be limited.
Putting some toilet paper bedding that has your smell on it is a good start so he gets to know your smell and associates it to kindness.
With it being so hot (I have friends in Montpelier and Perpignan where it has hit 50C in their walled garden...!) I suggest that you put a china mug or plate or some large clean pebbles in his cage as a place he can cool off at, putting them in a fridge for 15-30 minutes is also a good idea as it will produce a local cool spot for him.
I suggest you add some cucumber or melon no citrus fruit though to his diet as it will help hydrate him and cool him too.

Bon chance et j'espere que cela a aide....

It does take them some time to adjust to a new cage especially if it's a big change & it can be a stressful time for them until they get used to it & settle again
Make sure Crumble has plenty of little hideout spaces in the new bigger cage & not too much open space, keep cleaning to a minimum, nothing but spot cleaning pee if necessary for at least a few weeks now & that will allow Crumble to feel secure in the new cage.
The heat can be stressful for them to, there's a thread here with ideas for keeping them cool.

I'm so sorry that Crumble has not been acting like himself lately. As Rads and Cypher had mentioned, adjusting to a new, much larger cage can be a bit stressful to such a tiny ham so he probably just needs a little extra time getting used to his new home. The intense heat will also play a huge part in him being a lot less active. Both HC members gave plenty of excellent advice that should help and covered all the tips that I would suggest. I hope that Crumble will be settling in soon and you are able to tame him successful, too. I also will be keeping my fingers crossed that you and your ham will enjoy cooler weather very soon. Best of luck to you both.
