My male hamster might be female

Hey guys!

So i got a new hamster about 2 months ago, ive owned a few before so I know the basics, but this one time I picked this hamster and one of the girls that worked at the pet shop had said that they dont sell any female hamsters because of breeding and such, and I had wanted a female hamster thats why I had asked, so I was like oh okay thats fine.

I picked out this hamster and I had noticed that from the previous hamster that I had this one didnt have any "balls" and so I was like oh okay weird, and the girl at the store told me that some hamsters are neutered depending on the breeder so didnt say anything of it.

(its a teddy bear syrian)

Now two months later I was playing with my hamster and I start rubbing its back and the hamster does the same type of pose female hamsters do when they are in heat, I didn't actually know that female hamsters did that, so I googled it and found out that it's what females usually do, the only problem is i dont see any nipples.. and I can't quite tell if it has male or female genitals. (i have tried my best to follow random photos/videos on how to tell)

Im just really confused, do male hamsters do that position with the tail pointing straight up when rubbed? Can it happen? or is it a 100% female..

The odd male will stick his tail in the air but they don't normally 'stand' still. Did she have a glazed expression and repeat to position when you rubbed the back?
Males can keep their testicles quite tight in to the body and your best chance of seeing them clearly is when the hammy is warm and just awake. I have 4 week olds here though and you can clearly see them. There is a gap between the two vents which is quite wide with fur in it in a male. The female there is very little space in between. You often cannot see the nipple lines on a female at this age. Can you post a picture at all?
Put your hammy in a clear class jar and take a pic of underneath it it is tricky to hold still.
Nobody neuters hamsters I'm afraid. It is a huge and risky operation for a small animal and pointless as they are solitary.
It is only done in cases of tumours or twists or severe infection. Pet shop was talking rubbish!

My hamster does stay dazed for a while, and then it goes back to normal and then i rubbed the back again and it did the same thing, tail up, back arched with tummy laying on the ground. I picked the hamster up and it was super still not moving, it was quite hilarious to the honest. I really do believe with the information you gave me that my hamster is in fact female. Im just so confused as how the people in the pet shop never noticed?

That is a female hamster. You can see the first two nipples just above the top vent. The two vents are so close together that it hard to see that there are two vents. They are quite hard to sex when young but by the sounds of it that pet store was not very clued up! The top little bump is the urethra and vaginal opening (so close together that you won't notice)and just under that is the anus.
Also females give out a pungent scent when they stand. Males don't smell at all. See if she does in again in 4 or 5 days
