Re: I'm not sure if my hamster is happy
You could add a level/platform to the cage with a ramp.
If you make a playpen. You can add a variety of things to climb on, under or through. I have my hamsters sand bath/toilet in the playpen and they use it.
Youcan put your hamsters igloo in the playpen or get another for the playpen and leave the other in the cage.

I think the bath can be a bit scary for dwarf hams & is probably better suited to Syrians really.

Re: I'm not sure if my hamster is happy
Great advice from the others. Perhaps you could raise the cage on a low box or something. Even just a little higher will help. I swapped a Russian dwarf into a new cage and because she'd never been in a big cage before it took her more than a month to adjust. First she ran around a lot and then she got a bit withdrawn. I do think a bigger cage can make your hamster feel a bit more natural and some of their instincts like territorial ones come in which they just haven't been able to express before.

Thanks for the idea! I´m watching some tutorials and DIY to craft spicy toys for my hamster. I don´t know if my hamster likes stairs because he doesn´t use them all too often, but I will do!
he has a bath but inside the cage. Outside the cage I will put it.
I´m afraid of touching the igloo because he spends a lot of time there and I would hate to mess it up. One time i raised the igloo up and he had tunnels to the igloo, and a ball of paper covering his nest, so cute.

I already found a place to put the cage, it will be on a table so he should be safe there.
It´´s difficult for me to afford a bigger cage than what my hamster has, I do not have more space at home, i tried to make it as big as I could
I figured out my hamster is territorial, because he has never ever bitten outside the cage (he acts very nervously though )
Thanks a lot all of you for the tips, today I put 8cm more of substrate at his cage, added a second level to the cage and I hope he enjoys it! I´m also crafting a playpen with my GF, I will show it when it´s done!
Regards,

Re: I'm not sure if my hamster is happy
When Serendipity asked about the bath she meant your bath to use as a playpen not his sand bath! Some people use the bath (with a towel in the bottom & the plug in) as a play/taming area for their hams but as I said I think it works better with Syrians than dwarf hams which generally do better in a playpen or play bin.
I definitely wouldn't take his sand bath out to make more room in the cage, it is quite important (& fun!) for them to have one.
