Advice Please! Won't Come Out of Cage?
Hi everyone!
I've had my robo dwarf hamster for about 6 weeks now and we're been making good progress on taming (I think). She'll happily take treats from my hand, crawl over me and is happy for me to have my hands near/touching her as she plays.
She used to happily run into her ball when I put it in her cage but for the last 3 days she's refused. I did get her out last night and as soon as she was out of her cage she was fine it's just when she's in her cage I have an issue.
From what I know I think this is a territorial thing (correct or advise if you think different) so I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how I could tempt her out? She's in a bin cage at the moment so all access is from the top.
Thanks!

Re: Advice Please! Won't Come Out of Cage?
Hi and welcome to HC! Yes, that sounds like a territorial thing. If she no longer is interested in coming to the ball when you place it into her bin cage, I would suggest placing a couple of her favorite treats in there to tempt her into the ball so she associates it with yummies and outside of her bin playtime. Hamsters tend to be extremely food driven so a nice bribe always is helpful when getting them to do something, lol. It will also be beneficial to place your hand slightly to the side of where she is instead of directly placing over her when putting the ball into her cage. That way, she will not be intimidated and her prey instinct won't kick in as much. I hope that this helps and the two of you enjoy plenty of playtime together. Best wishes. Btw, what is your hammy's name?

Thanks for the advice! I'll try that tonight .
Yeah, I don't get it. She now tends to walk over to her ball then walk away! She never hides or anything, just goes about the cage like it's not there. Don't understand what changed with her.
Hey name is Princess Holly Lilywhite, Holly for short

Aww, such a lovely name for your precious darling!!! I totally love it!!!! Good luck tonight; lol, maybe she is just trying to play a bit of hard to get.

You could just try something else like a small cardboard box if she doesn't like going into the ball so much anymore, a treat always helps though!

Thanks for the advice guys! I did what you both advised and it worked for a couple of days but i’m back at square one with her . I’m not sure what I might be doing wrong?

Re: Advice Please! Won't Come Out of Cage?
It sounds as though she's got wise to this & knows that whatever you use it means out of cage time & she may just be a bit reluctant to come out, I would give her a break for a few days then maybe try getting her out once every two or three days for a bit & see how that goes, just continue interacting with her in the cage meanwhile.
