Default Confused.

Hey guys. So, I posted a little bit ago about the new Syrian I got. Some of you gave me advice about what to do about his biting. Well, I tried outside of the cage taming. I put a towel down in my bathtub and put a wheel, his tube from his tank, and a house and tried introducing my hand, but he just seemed stressed so I put him back in his tank and he wasn't pacing anymore. The thing is, I will put seeds, food, treats in my hand and he'll take them and not be scared, but he'll bite me afterwards. So I do the washing hands with non scented soap method, still bites me. I tried gloves, bit through/still attempts. HE LETS ME PET HIS BACK AND TAKES FOOD FROM MY HAND THOUGH?? He likes to surf on the glass and climb on the lid, so obviously he wants out. So I tried picking him up and cupping my hands and he was fine for about two seconds then jumped out of my hands. So I'm really at a loss of what to do with him. I don't know why he let's me pet him and hand feed him but he won't climb into my hand without biting my finger hard enough to leave a mark but not enough to bleed. Yet. I bought him because I thought after I tamed him I'd finally have an animal I can hold and chill with on my bed, but I can't even stick my hand in to change his water bowl without him coming over and biting my palm. I'm sad about it and don't want him to just be a cage animal I feed everyday, can't interact with and love. Any help is appreciated

P.s. he lives in a 40 gallon breeder tank, he has a 12 inch silent spinner, he has three wooden houses, one of the plastic igloos, rocks in the corner, a bendy bridge, one of the coconut bird houses with the ladder, and a huge sand bath he loves. Plus toilet and papertowel rolls he chews all the time. Just incase his living is questioned about his behavior! Thanks in advance.

It may just take more time for him to realise that hands aren't food, he sounds as though he's getting quite tame other than the biting.
You might do better to try him in a playpen that you can sit in with him, let him get used to running around on you & brief handling, maybe without treats & he should stop biting soon enough.

Okay! Any playpen ideas? I don't want to try the cardboard box one due to my stress of him getting out lol, so any other safe methods I can try/build to do that?

Are you in the UK?
If you are then this is probably the best playpen.

Or there is a wooden one from Zooplus which is suitable for syrians, the wire playpens are only suitable for dwarfs.
The big advantage of the first one is you can make it as big or small as you like & it easily folds flat to store.

I'll look at that! And I'm actually in California, so I dont think I'd be able to get anything from UK! thank you though! I'll figure something out and see if it works with him, if not what do I do then? :/

I just had a look on Amazon & most of the storage cubes there seem to be mesh but this one is similar to the uK ones.
I also made a playpen with sheets of correx plastic cut to the size I wanted made a hole in each corner & fixed with cable ties, that folds flat too, easy but correx isn't cheap usually.

I use a dry bath with fleece at the bottom for a cheap alternative for a playpen. He might associate your hand with food because he takes treats from your hand. Every time he tries to bite you give him a very light blow on the head so he knows its a bad thing to do

By blow... do you mean blowing air?

I'm sure SimonandSyril meant just that, not any other kind of blow!
I wouldn't recommend blowing on them though, it's not pleasant for them & not really a good way to discourage them.
