My baby hamster is sleeping in her bath tub - is it normal?
Hi!
So I got my very first baby, 5weeks old short haired syrian today and she has been very active and social. She has three hideouts, one full of hay and two full of toilet paper shredding, but she’s sleeping in the bath sand! I have a plastic cup, about as big as a hand, with bathing sand in it and she’s sleeping in that cup. At first she was digging and actually bathing but now she’s snoring away. Just now she woke up to eat and stretch and went straight back to sleep, head down in the sand.
I have no idea if this is normal. Is she hot or something, seeking for the sand to cool her off?
Also, is it dangerous if they have a small bathing sand bit in their eye? Her face is full of sand since she sleeps head down.
Thanks for reading and sorry for bad english, I’m from Finland, hello

Your hamster may take sometime to settle and is likely to move where she sleeps to a dark place.
Hay can be a bit sharp, so you may want to remove it. Tissue is good for the nest.
Plastic can be dangerous if chewed. A empty box without a base can make a good hide and a ceramic flower pot is good for cooling down a hamster in hot weather.

Re: My baby hamster is sleeping in her bath tub - is it normal?
Young hams fall asleep in all sorts of odd places to begin with, as long as she seems active & is eating normally etc when she's awake then I really wouldn't worry. She'll probably make a nest somewhere soon.
They will sleep in the sand when they're too hot sometimes but that seems unlikely at this time of year unless you have the heating turned up really high!
