Default Spitting pouched food out?

So last night, I offered my hammy some treats from my palm. He willingly came and sat on my fingers while he pouched about three seeds, then he started eating a sunflower seed. He sat on my fingers while eating, but when he finished he spat out the seeds he had pouched back onto my palm and began eating another. It was so weird!! Is this normal behavior?

I have a Syrian hamster.

They unload their pouches to eat or stash the food, he was most likely unloading them so he could eat another. This is normal, and if he’s eating on your hand and unloading to eat something, it shows that he trusts you with his food and feels completely comfortable eating around you Hope this helped x

Also, every hamster is an individual, this may just be his way of doing things, it’s most probably nothing to worry about

Thank goodness! I had read on other sites that it can be a defensive maneuver, but he didn't seem scared at all. It was just odd!

It can be defensive if they are not used to being handled, but it is usually followed by a squeak or a bite if you don’t put them down, but seen as though he didn’t seem frightened and simply ate another bit of food, I think it’s just him Every hamster is different and they all have their little quirks, I think you may have one of your hamsters x
