Re: Started climbing his cage
His food bowl is ground level in front of the cage, that small bowl up top he puts poop in it lol ( I don't know why but it's funny) He has a litter Bowl in the back he uses. He stopped using it when he moved his nest to the topper and started peeing in his topper. I guess it was to far to go so he peed in his nest area. He is nesting back in his Igloo again and peeing in his litter Bowl again. I put food throughout his cage and some in the bowl. He fully wakes up around 10 -11pm searches for food and goes sets in his hut for awhile. I think he doesn't start the climbing until early morning. Thank you all for your feed back and I will put in some ground tunnels, filling it back up more and giving him some chew toys. I just want him to be happy

Re: Started climbing his cage
so I put a lot of stuff in his cage and I built him a maze tunnel out of small light bulb boxes. He has moved his nest into the tunnel but he seems to still use his litter box (thank goodness). I kind of figure he would do that since it's darker and he likes boxes. There is a window vent towards the back for circulation. it is half submerged under the bedding. There is more beding but it always seems to settle and look less and he does dig a little more. I did get some thin stick balls and he tore right through it quickly lol, I will be ordering those trio balls on amazon. my robo is still working on his though. He has stopped climbing the cage so much. He only really does it when I go to feed him and he wants more (Im guessing)but he'll stop when I walk away and watch me for a minute and go search for the rest. I'll put some in his bowl, feed some from my hand and scattered it around the cage. He seems to be happier (well it seems that way).

Re: Started climbing his cage
It looks like the Hamster Heaven or Hamster Sky. Lovely cage for him. I would just take the plastic tubes out and block them off - if you've got the blocker off bits it came with
I had that shelf in my old cage and it was a pain lol. I was so relieved when the ladder broke and I had an excuse to get rid of it. I ended up putting a large flat roofed house at that end instead, which worked really well - the flat roof made a shelf and the large house our hammy loved and built a huge nest and I even put his potty inside (had to because he moved his pee corner inside the house).
Glad he is settling down a bit. It won't do any harm climbing bars the cage isn't too tall In fact our hammy regularly used to climb the bars to get onto that same shelf - he was not keen on the ladder. The little inset food bowl caused some funny things for us too - our hammy used to lift it out to see what was underneath. He nested in the little house on the shelf initially, which was a nightmare as it gets smelly and isn't big enough, plus the top kept popping off because he stuffed so much into it. And he used the little corner foodbowl as a toilet - because it was in a corner! And near the house. Sounds like your hammy is hoarding his poops in it in case food ever runs short (they eat the poops) - clever hammy!

I know they eat their poop sometimes but he usually stores it in his nest, but that's funny lol. yeah he doesn't care to much for the tubs on top, he only uses it when I put food in it. I'll probably take it off.

Re: Started climbing his cage
I'm glad to hear that he is settling down and hasn't been climbing the bars as much now. His cage also looks really nice and sounds like he is happy with the changes and has plenty to keep him occupied!
